The space environment testing facility comprises a small thermal vacuum chamber suitable for testing electronic components and small instruments down to 10-6 mBar vacuum (i.e. 1 billionth of an atmosphere). The cylindrical chamber measures 230 mm diameter x 230 mm height. Initially, the thermal control system will be limited to a thermostatic-controlled radiant heater element, giving a practical temperature range of + 20°C to + 150 °C. In the near future, a refrigeration unit will be installed to enable the chamber to be chilled to -40 °C.
